The 5 steps to better roaming.

SjorryChallenger Mid Lane CoachMarch 13, 2026

Better roaming comes down to five steps: glance at the minimap while pushing, start moving toward the target lane, move your camera to scout enemy HP and positioning, find a path that gets behind the enemy, and commit fully to the roam. The commit step is the most important — review every failed roam in replay to improve your decision-making.

Roaming. It's the main way you can stop little timmy down in botlane from going 0/8 and rage quitting the game. If you've been watching my content you'll understand how important roaming is. It's the way we can control the game from midlane, and make sure our funny teammates don't mentally explode and lose the game.

We always hear about the importance of roaming to impact the game and collect our sweet sweet lp. But what are the actual steps you need to take when roaming? What things should you be looking for? Today I'll bring some clarity on that.

To some of you this may seem obvious, but just because it's obvious does not mean you're doing it every game.

Step 1: While you're pushing the wave you should be glancing at the minimap to see if there is anywhere to roam to. Of course if your laners are in base then you can't roam.

Step 2: Start running towards the lane you want to roam to.

Step 3: Move your camera over to watch where you're roaming to. You need to get information to help you make a decision. There are a lot of things to look for when you move your camera. The main ones are: How much HP do the enemies have and where are they moving.

Step 4: Find the correct path to take. Depending on where the enemy is moving you need to find the correct path to ensure you get behind them. You should ALWAYS try to get behind the enemy on a roam, to make sure they have to run through you.

Step 5: Commit. This is the most important step. This is the step you should review after the game. This is where you have to make the decision to lose midlane minions and tower plates to go for the roam. Often I will only go for roams I think have a very high chance of working, because a failed roam means you lose plates and waves. So you better make sure the chance it works is very high. After a failed roam you should ALWAYS go into the replay and review the decision. What did you not consider? What did you not see? And then make sure you improve it.

These are the only 5 steps you need to improve your roaming so you can stop your teammates from losing the game before it even starts.
